Our focus is criminal defense, but we help people facing many different legal issues. If we are not the perfect firm for you, we will refer you to the right lawyer for the job.

Federal and State Crimes

We have experience in federal and state court. Most criminal charges are brought by a Florida State Attorney’s Office. Sometimes, state crimes are “adopted” by the federal government or they have been investigated by the FBI, DEA, ATF, or another federal agency. In many cases, both Florida and the federal government will have jurisdiction over a crime. The federal government will typically not get involved if the state of Florida is prosecuting an individual, unless they get a special exception to what they call the Petit Policy which requires approval from Washington D.C.

Misdemeanors and Felonies

Misdemeanors are minor crimes that have a maximum punishment of one year in jail or less. Felonies have a maximum punishment greater than one year, but also carry significant other consequences such as restrictions on your voting rights, ability to own or possess a firearm, or prohibit you from obtaining some professional or business licenses among other things. Even misdemeanors, especially those involving domestic violence, can have repercussions beyond just going to jail or paying fines that can follow you throughout your life. No criminal accusation should be taken lightly.

DUI and Drug Crimes

DUIs and drug crimes can have a major impact on your criminal record and ability to get a job afterward. Whether it was an out of the ordinary occasion or you need help with substance abuse, we know how to handle these situations. Substance abuse is an issue felt by people from all walks of life. Almost every family in our community has dealt with the consequences of a loved one falling into a vicious cycle due to drugs or alcohol. Even many drug dealers are forced into that lifestyle due to their own addiction or economic hardship. There are many facts that can be presented to prosecutors to show a person is capable of overcoming this battle and that there are better solutions than throwing a person in jail.

Violent Crimes

Violent crimes, especially those involving firearms or special victims, frequently have mandatory-minimum sentences or sentencing enhancements that drastically increase the likelihood of significant jail time. Because of this, more law enforcement resources, such as collection and examination of forensic evidence, are utilized. This requires the assistance of an attorney to assess the strength of the evidence. Building a legal defense in these cases needs to start immediately.
